Are you planning a vacation this year?
If not, perhaps you should. Americans take fewer vacations and work more than their European counterparts. Yet according to a recent Hilton survey 81 percent of people say they feel better mentally and physically when they take a vacation. "In fact, almost two-thirds of us (64 percent) get more pleasure out of vacations than our own personal possessions," said Joanie Flynn, Hilton's director of leisure and resort marketing. Vacations are a good way to review our perspective on live, relax and renew our spirit. Yet in the last one to two years, half of Americans didn’t take a vacation.
What is important in deciding where you vacation?
Sun and relaxation was the number one consideration when deciding where to vacation (33%). Other topics also considered were food and entertainment, cultural attracts, and outdoor sports.
How are you booking your vacations?
This year 44% of travelers will book their vacations using the internet. Eight percent will book online for the first time. Using the telephone, almost twenty percent will book directly from the airline, hotel or rental car company. Others will use travel agents (15%) and tour operators (7%).
Where are vacationers staying?
When vacationing, most people stay with family or friends, followed by hotels, motels, and resorts. Still others stay at a time share (6%), a B & B (2%), or a vacation rental home (2%). Most will travel within the country.
So what’s important to you when taking a vacation? And if you haven’t taken a vacation in years, perhaps you should consider taking one this year.
